Last week, we attended a conciliation hearing against an estate agency at the Local Justice Office in Teguise, formerly known as the Juzgado de Paz.
Beyond the case itself, there was something that particularly caught our attention: finding the office is far from straightforward. It is currently located above the Teleclub in La Villa and has no external signage, apparently because permission has not been granted to install it.
We mention this to help fellow legal professionals and anyone who may need to attend: the entrance is through the Teleclub building, and the office is located on the upper floor.
Local Justice Offices perform an essential public service. They bring the justice system closer to local communities and allow many legal formalities to be carried out without the need to travel to other municipalities. Given their importance, it is difficult to understand—and frankly unacceptable—that this public office has no sign identifying it from the outside.
This is not simply a matter of appearance. Proper signage ensures that anyone can find the office easily and arrive on time for a hearing or any other judicial appointment.
We hope this situation will be resolved soon and that the Local Justice Office in Teguise, together with its staff, will receive the visibility and institutional recognition they deserve.
