Legal Training for Civil Protection and Red Cross Volunteers in Lanzarote

ABOGADAS LANCELOT supports legal education for Lanzarote’s volunteer organisations: a session on the ethical and legal aspects of voluntary work.

Since its foundation, ABOGADAS LANCELOT, and in particular its solicitor Alicia Martín Borreguero, has maintained a strong commitment to civil society and the many volunteer initiatives developed across the island of Lanzarote. Aware of the essential role played by volunteers in emergency response, public service and social care, our solicitor has contributed pro bono legal training to these groups on numerous occasions.

On this occasion, ABOGADAS LANCELOT delivered a training session entitled “The Ethical and Legal Aspects of Volunteering”, aimed at members of all Civil Protection units and the Red Cross operating on the island. The session focused on providing essential legal tools to help volunteers understand their legal obligations, limits of action, and the responsibilities they assume when carrying out their duties—often in sensitive or high-risk situations.

The training covered key topics such as confidentiality, respect for fundamental rights, civil liability, and the legal framework governing volunteering at both regional and national levels. All content was delivered in a practical, accessible manner, tailored to the real-life challenges faced by these teams, with the aim of fostering greater legal awareness and promoting safer, more effective action in the field.

Initiatives like this reflect our professional mission to make the law more accessible to key sectors of society, contributing to the civic and legal education of those who dedicate their time to the common good. At ABOGADAS LANCELOT, we are sincerely grateful to the Civil Protection and Red Cross groups of Lanzarote for their trust in our legal training efforts, and we take this opportunity to publicly acknowledge their tireless service to the community.

Our firm will continue to support and promote such collaborations, firmly believing that legal knowledge is essential in the field of volunteering—not only to protect those who serve, but also to ensure that their work is carried out in a safe, ethical, and legally sound manner.
